
Richard D. Simmons
Former President and Chief Operating Officer, The Washington Post Company

Richard D. Simmons was president of The Washington Post Company from September 1981 to April 1991. From April 1989 to April 1996, he was president of the International Herald Tribune. Prior to joining The Washington Post Company, Mr. Simmons was associated with The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation in various capacities, serving as president of Moody's Investors Service, president of Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., and vice chairman and a director. He began his career as an associate in the New York City law firm of Satterlee and Stephens.
Mr. Simmons is a director of The Washington Post Company, J.P. Morgan & Co. Inc. and Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, Union Pacific Corporation and Yankee Publishing Inc. He is a member of the General Electric Investments Corporation Equity Advisory Board, the Advisory Board of Directorship, a council member of the White Burkett Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia, and a trustee of the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation.
Born in Cambridge, MA, on December 30, 1934, Mr. Simmons is a graduate of Harvard University and Columbia University School of Law.
