
John Hockenberry
Assistant Secretary, The Washington Post Company
John F. Hockenberry, associate general counsel and assistant secretary of The Washington Post Company, graduated from Princeton University in 1969, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, with a bachelor's degree in economics. Hockenberry's law school education was interrupted by military service with the Connecticut National Guard, and he graduated from Yale Law School in 1973. Between 1973 and 1980 he was a corporate attorney with Cravath, Swaine and Moore LLP in New York City, where his work included equity and debt public offerings and private placements, venture capital financings, business acquisitions, the structuring of joint ventures, and assisting clients in securities and antitrust lawsuits. Hockenberry joined the legal staff of The Washington Post Company's corporate office in 1980 as assistant general counsel; he became associate general counsel in 1995.
